Friday Prayers During the Winter

Inshallah, Asalaamualaikum. Inshallah the Islamic Center of Mill Valley will continue Friday Jummah prayers outdoors during the winter, however we will move it indoors when it rains. Each person is required to sign up at the link below:

Please also review the rules listed below:

According to Marin County rules, the Masjid can now have indoor prayers if it follows the rules set by the Marin County Health Department. Please see the general rules at www.marinrecovers.com and specifically https://marinrecovers.com/Faith-Based-Organizations for religious organizations. See also https://files.covid19.ca.gov/pdf/guidance-places-of-worship–en.pdf.

As the rules would be very burdensome for the Masjid to follow, unless if it is actually raining at the time prayer starts or if the parking lot is too wet, prayers will continue to be outdoors with the previously broadcasted rules to be followed for outdoor prayers.

If, however, when praying indoor is necessary, the following additional rules will need to be followed to comply with both the Marin County and California guidelines for religious organizations:

Maximum indoor capacity of the Masjid is 50 people. More than 50 people will not be allowed inside for any prayer.

Self-screen before coming to the Masjid. Do a temperature check and do not come to the Masjid if you have a fever or any Covid type symptoms.

Entry to the masjid for the five daily prayers will be from the center entry doors

You will need to take your footwear into the masjid with you so that you can exit from the rear doors. Please bring a plastic bag to place your footwear.

Bring your own prayer mat that is clean and not the same one used for outdoor prayers.

Pray only in the areas marked by green tape.

For proper social distancing when leaving, exiting will only be from all the rear doors in the back facing Shell Road.

When entering or leaving, please be patient and enter/leave in an orderly manner and make sure you are at least 6 feet from each other

To minimize time spent together in confined spaces, prayers will be kept as short as possible.

For ventilation, windows and doors may be kept open, so please dress appropriately for colder indoor temperatures.

As the Masjid does not have the resources nor dedicated staff to sanitize and clean frequently touched surfaces often, please avoid touching any surfaces. If any surfaces are touched, please sanitize your hands before touching your face. Sanitizers will be provided at entry and exit points.

All rules related to outdoor prayers will still apply. All other rooms in the Masjid shall not be used at all.

The only other allowed activity in the Masjid is the Alim class in the morning after Fajr. All the above rules shall be followed for this activity as well.

Additional Rules for Juma’ah Indoor Prayers.

We currently have two outdoor Juma’ah Prayers, each with a capacity of 100 worshippers. Indoors, our capacity will only be 50 worshippers per Juma’ah Prayer.

Because of the change to Daylight Saving Time. we will have new sign-ups for the two prayers as we did a few months ago. The choices will be 12 20 pm and 1:10 pm. You will be allowed to attend only the prayer that you signed up for.

Furthermore, within each prayer sign-up, we will break up the group into two subgroups, The 12:20 pm group will be divided into Sub Group 1A and Sub Group 1B. The 1:10 pm group will be divided into Sub Group 2A and Sub Group 2B.

For Indoor Juma’ah prayers, we will alternate attendance between the two subgroups. For example, if this coming Juma’ah is indoors and another Juma’ah three weeks from now is also indoors, then 1A and 2A can attend this Juma’ah and 1B and 2B can attend the Juma’ah three weeks from now.

We will let you know via Whatsapp, mvsalaat.com and the masjid phone message when a Juma’ah is going to be indoors with a reminder of what subgroups will be allowed to attend.

We believe this is the fairest way to give everyone a chance to attend Juma’ah if outdoors is not possible.

Please help us in making sure that this program functions smoothly. If your subgroup is not designated for a particular Juma’ah, please do not come to the Masjid as you will be turned away.

Azan for the first congregation will be at 12:20 PM. Azan for the second congregation be at 1:10 pm.

We will need to carefully check that you are on the list for that particular Juma’ah, As this may take some time and to avoid standing in the rain, entry will be from the entrance in the front near the kitchen. Please patiently wait in the six feet apart, socially distanced line until your turn comes up.

Please respectfully follow any directions of volunteers that are enforcing the above rules.
